Early 20th-century dark blue crushed morocco by Rivière, spine lettered in gilt with raised bands, elaborate decoration to compartments and framing boards with fine gilt tooling, with onlaid morocco decoration, including brown borders, light blue medallions enclosing gilt-tooled flowers with green leaves and red petals, wide gilt inner dentelles, vellum endpapers, edges gilt. With 99 mounted line illustrations on fine tissue paper, historiated initials, facsimile manuscript dedication, and vignette title page, all after Thomson. Housed in a custom blue cloth slipcase.

Identifying Characteristics

Vellum endpapers cockled, as usual, a little repair to head of joints. A near-fine copy.

Contemporary vellum over light green paper-covered boards by Cedric Chivers of Bath, with his gilt stamp to rear turn-in, spine and boards lettered in gilt, decorated with pen-and-ink and watercolour drawings featuring King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, details tooled in gilt, designs within double rule gilt frames, edges of covers and turn-ins tooled in gilt, cloudy green marbled endpapers, edges gilt.

Identifying Characteristics

Gift inscription dated 1903 to verso front free endpaper. Binding bright, spine gilt slightly faded, negligible marks, outer leaves foxed, else fresh. A near-fine copy.

Housed in a black cloth flat-back box by the Chelsea Bindery.

Identifying Characteristics

Spine restored, small chip to rear wrapper bottom corner, general mild soiling to wrappers but presenting nicely, small damp stain to top corner affecting both wrappers and leaves but never touching text, some leaves evenly toned within: very good condition.
