Christian Ethics: or, Divine Morality. Opening the Way to Blessedness, By the Rules of Vertue and Reason
577 pages. Contemporary speckled calf, restored at the corners and spine which has an attractive contemporary morocco label. A good copy of the first and only edition of this excessively rare and very important work in mystical theology. It is undoubtedly Traherne's most important work in prose, unlike "Centuries of Meditations" which was left incomplete at his death. Although he did not live to see 'Christian Ethicks' published, dying shortly before, the text for this work is exactly as he intended it. A rare work, published in strict accordance with the author's wishes, by almost the last of the metaphysical poets and one of the greatest English mystics, this also includes seven of Traherne's first published poems.
